Adult Dog Training and Behaviour Consultations
Jo comes to you. Two to three hours in your own home, working on the behaviour where it actually happens.
Behaviour problems don't happen at a training ground - they happen at your front door, on your street, at your dinner table. So that is where we work. Jo will travel to the comfort of your own home and spend 2 to 3 hours with you and your family, listening to the challenges you are experiencing, explaining the dog psychology behind them, and working hands-on with your dog.
No two dogs are the same, but most behaviour challenges fall into a handful of patterns. These are the ones we see most often - and if your dog's behaviour isn't listed here, ask us. After more than a decade of consultations, there isn't much Jo hasn't seen.
What we help with
REACTIVITY, AGGRESSION &
LEAD MANNERS
From pulling and lunging on the lead to reactivity and aggression towards dogs or people - we work out what is driving it and change it.
SEPARATION ANXIETY
& INSECURITY
For the dog that can't be left alone, or shadows you from room to room - we build genuine confidence, not just coping.
PHOBIAS & FEAR-BASED BEHAVIOURS
Storms, loud noises, vet visits, stairs, cars, even slippery floors. These respond well when they are addressed at the emotional level.
JUMPING, OVER-EXCITEMENT & DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOUR
Jumping on guests, chewed furniture, a dog that never switches off - usually a structure and energy problem, and very fixable.

How a consultation works
Every consultation is a mix of three things: discussion with Jo about your dog's behaviour, learning the dog psychology behind it, and hands-on work with your dog. Afterwards you receive follow-up notes and homework - clients tell us they are invaluable - so everyone in the household stays consistent.
And it doesn't end when Jo leaves. At SOS Dogs, you are a client for life with a lifetime of support. Once you have a consultation with us, you will never have to face dog behavioural challenges by yourself again.

As soon as a behaviour starts worrying you - reactivity, aggression, separation anxiety, phobias, or a dog that never switches off. The earlier a pattern is addressed, the easier it is to change: almost every problem we see is easier to prevent than to fix.
-
If the alternative is living with the problem, yes. A consultation does more than manage symptoms - Jo works out what is driving the behaviour, teaches you the dog psychology behind it, and why it's happening. We leave you with follow-up notes and homework so the whole household stays consistent. And once you have worked with us, you are a client for life with a lifetime of support.
-
No. It is never too late. We work with dogs of every age, and the same principles that shape a puppy work on a ten-year-old - it just takes the right approach and consistency.
